BN should support the Pakatan initiated Selangor Constitution amendment BUT only to restore power to the DYMM Sultan & NOT to the MB

It seems that the Selangor MB and his Exco would still not let go of the appointment of the Datuk SS. They are still adamant to go ahead with the exercise in futility when they want to amend the Constitution despite the DYMM Sultan call to accept Datuk Khusrin.

Since the DAP,PKR and PAS do not have 2/3rd majority they are now challenging the BN Aduns to walk the talk and support them to vote for the amendment. The story here:

Selangor MB dares Umno to prove sincerity to palace
By Boo Su-Lyn January 08, 2011

SUBANG JAYA, Jan 8 — Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim challenged Selangor Umno today to support amendments to the state constitution if it was sincere in upholding the royal institution.

The Selangor mentri besar plans to call for an emergency sitting of the state assembly in a bid to end the impasse over Datuk Mohd Khusrin Munawi’s appointment as the new state secretary.

But Pakatan Rakyat (PR), which holds 35 seats in the 56-seat assembly, is three seats shy of a two-thirds majority necessary to amend laws.

“Umno (says it) has high regard for the Sultan. They (say they) uphold the monarchy.

“So, you put your money where your mouth is,” Khalid said.

read the rest here.

My suggestion is that YES, the BN should support the amendment BUT ONLY to restore the power back to he DYMM Sultan of Selangor. The MB of Selangor never had any vested power to appoint the MB, and nice try Khalid but your trick is so obvious that even a secondary one student can see through what you and your Pakatan Exco have in mind. Sincerity my foot.

By the way the MB and his exco should read this:

Expert: Ban on state sec illegal

No reason at all to change the Selangor Constitution. It has worked for the past many years and there's no reason it won't.

Now it's only the intransigence of Khalid the existing MB. It will come to pass as he'd lose out if he drags the issue. He knows he can't get the amendment thru as PR doesn't have the 2/3 majority. The rakyat will be laughing at them if they persist.

The appointment procedures have been there for the last so many years since the existence of the Federated Malay States.

Do read the New Straits Times article by zainul (?) - a very good one on this.

Thanks Anon, I know there is actually no reason to change the Constitution. I am just pulling the Pakatan MB and his Excos legs, he, he.

Zainul Ariffin's article "Is this Khalid's Waterloo" is a superb article. Read also a very scholarly write by Roger Tan at this webpage

I am not a lawyer, but I think this is closest to answering many of the questions asked in blogosphere and elsewhere. Mr Tan had done a lot of research in this matter I am sure.
