Happy Malaysia Day: certain UMNO leaders should heed Najib's call and leave Perkasa alone

How timely can PM Najib's call be on the occasion of the celebration of Hari Malaysia on 16th September 2010 through his latest posting titled; Our Fight Against Extremism, excerpts:

...While we have achieved so much, it troubles me to see a rise in issues rooted in extremism in the nation. This is not limited to racism. Extremists are groups or individuals who subscribe to radical views and actions against others. They treat anyone who is different as an enemy and engineer fear in people who don’t conform to their thoughts or ideologies and, in some cases in people who simply look different. Hence, extremism here applies to a gamut of factors, including racism, arts, culture, way of life, and more. The late U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy once said, "What is objectionable, what is dangerous about extremists is not that they are extreme but that they are intolerant. The evil is not what they say about their cause, but what they say about their opponents."

I am strongly opposed to these types of behaviour. It saddens me that despite living in an independent multi-cultural nation for over 50 years, there are still those among us who cannot tolerate, much less accept the benefits of a diverse society. It saddens me because by rejecting our diverse way of life, they reject 1Malaysia.
While these groups are often small in number, their presence is amplified through their extreme sentiments and acts. .

The PM's posting this time can be read many ways but because he did not name the individuals or groups he has in mind, many  believed that he may mean Suqiu, Dong Zong even the DAP or PAS, or even his straying UMNO lieutenants notably KJ who is leading Nazri, Tengku Adnan even Khalid Nordin in this irrational fear against PERKASA which is just an NGO among many NGOs in Malaysia.

I have blogged about the UMNO and PERKASA spat here when it first came out in the open. Even twittered with KJ when I posed a question where I note that 1Malaysia is based on our Perlembagaan and so is Perkasa's struggle and I asked out of curiosity is it Perkasa or Ibrahim Ali he dislike. KJ twitter response was "salah approach".Not an answer I expected from someone who is rabidly anti PERKASA. He should at least point out which part of PERKASA's struggle which is extreme and is against the Perlembagaan.

Dato' Ahirudin Attan blogged about the spat too; the irrational fear of PERKASA where he noted in the CNBC interview that Najib is not against PERKASA and he stressed that "The fear of Perkasa, which has posed no real or serious threat to the Malaysian status quo, is irrational and starting to really irritate more and more people who know that this fear is being inflicted by some politicians for their own political expediency. It's just a matter of time before everyone realizes it."

This had not stopped KJ and his supporters from attacking PERKASA and Utusan which supports the NGO though, read a good post hereFinally comes a sledge hammer post by jebatmustdie; The Quintuplets in UMNO, excerpts:
There is a lot of stupidity going on in Umno these days. This legion of stupidity is headed by Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan, Datuk Khaled Nordin and Khairy Jamaluddin himself.
This quintuplet of misguided souls will spell the end of Umno’s political hegemony if Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak could not rein in their extreme views and dare I say it, desperation.
Read JMD's full master blaster here.

For the record I think JMD is a patriot and a bonafide intellectual he should be among UMNO's think tank elite advising the party's President not some paid Con-sultant who does not know nor care about UMNO and Malaysia's history.

I end this post with a plea for all especially the small group of UMNO leaders to cease and desist from attacking Perkasa, if you think you will make Perkasa weaker then you do not understand nor care about the Malays and their fears and expectations for the future. If the Malays are further divided politically then Malaysia will be very unstable and would be of no benefit for us Malays/Bumiputras, Chinese, Indians and others.

Selamat Hari Malaysia!
