The Al Kitab Injil issue: Holistic solution based on the Perlembagaan and the Law is required

While I have absolutely no doubt of the Government commitment and intention to resolve festering issues such as those related to race, religion, education, economy, corruption etc. I have always thought that in order for a Government to rule it must always be by Rule by of Law in whatever circumstances that it faced.  (The rule of law is a legal maxim that states no person is above the law, and no one can be punished by the government except for a breach of the law

Governments should never make the mistake of ruling based on appeasement and especially in the face of racial or religious sensitivities ought to make the right decisions based on our Perlembagaan and the Law. Otherwise Government can be manipulated by certain groups of people with vested  interest.

Case in point is the issue of the Imported Alkitab Injil from Indonesia:

The case has festered long enough and finally the Government thru' Idris Jala though with due respect I think he is not the right Minister to announce this it should have been the KDN Minister but any way the offer and the apology which really was not necessary is so generous that on hindsight it seems too good to be true:

Bibles in all languages can now be imported
2011/04/03

KUALA LUMPUR: The government yesterday announced that Bibles in all languages, including Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia, would now be allowed to be imported into the country. The Bibles can also be printed locally, in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Datuk Seri Idris Jala, in a statement, said this was part of a 10-point solution reached following dialogues with Christian groups. Read more here.

I had blogged earlier that the Gomen will soon  be faced with other serious questions such as the pending KDN appeal of the High Court Decision brought by the Herald and also the various State Islamic enactments concerning the usage of the word "ALLAH". Here.

Even before we Malaysians had time to digest the Gomen's latest decision we already have these news:

Mufti dares Putrajaya to drop Allah enactment
By Syed Mu-az Syed Putra April 04, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 — Perak Mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria has challenged Putrajaya to abolish Islamic laws regarding the use of Allah after allowing Christians to freely distribute Malay-language bibles across the country.

He said the decision insults the Quran and contravenes the Control and Restriction of the Propagation of Non-Islamic Religions Enactment, which bars non-Muslims from using Allah to refer to God in all states besides Sabah, Sarawak, Penang and the federal territories. Read more here.

Followed not far behind by the Muslim NGOs:

Muslim NGOs say Putrajaya bowing to Christians
By Shannon Teoh April 04, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 — The decision to allow Malay-language Bibles to be freely distributed nationwide has drawn the ire of Muslim NGOs who said today that the government was being manipulated by Christian groups.

The Muslim Organisations in Defence of Islam (Pembela), a coalition of 19 Muslim bodies, threatened to challenge in court the 10-point solution offered by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala if there was no review done in consultation with Muslim representatives.

“For those who have followed this issue since it was raised by Christian groups, the Idris Jala formula is clearly a decision to give in and bow to the strategy of confrontation, manipulation and pressure by these groups to achieve their goals,” said spokesman Yusri Mohamed.

“This move is part of an unhealthy trend that will encourage repeated confrontation and manipulation to make demands that contravene the constitution, laws, history and culture of the country,” he added in a statement today. Read more here.

I suppose with all those pressures coming from our Muslim groups, The KDN Minister had to finally made a statement:

Hisham says Alkitab decision ‘not finalised’
By Yow Hong Chieh April 04, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 — The 10-point “solution” announced by Putrajaya on Saturday to placate Christians unhappy with the government’s restrictions on Malay bibles has yet to be finalised, the home minister has said.

Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said today that talks on the Alkitab issue were still ongoing, just two days after Datuk Seri Idris Jala assured Christians that a compromise formula had been decided upon by Cabinet.

“We’re still in the middle of negotiations. Nothing is finalised yet,” Hishammuddin told The Malaysian Insider.

He stressed that the government was taking a “fair and reasonable” step-by-step approach to address the Malay bibles issue, pointing out that nothing will get resolved if Christians and Muslims get bogged down by details.

“The main thing is that we have to move forward... in a reasonable, non-polemic way,” he said.

Pheww, that was quick, as renowned very opiniated blogger SatD came up with a fire and brimstone post:

Al-Kitab soon to be available in a Store next to you? A look at Jala's 10 Point "Solution" and Malaysian Penal Code 298A

Never seen the young but very bright man in such mood. Taking away the fire and brimstone though, SatD however has brought up a few good points, please do read his noteworthy post and another angry young man's blog at kennvoices:

Hallelujah!!! Anda Tidak Perlu Lagi Mengundi DAP!

Listen to what they have to say, angry young men they are, they must however be heard, and yes we were young once and angry too.

The Alkitab issue need to be solved holistically based on the Perlembagaan and the Law, Muslim groups must be involved as well not just the Christian Groupings,  as what is decided also affects the sensitivities of the Muslims in Malaysia. Its a tough job but the Government will just have to hold the bull by the horn as this issue will not go away quietly.

Lastly I think Government or Civil Servants should not apologize for doing their work based on the Law. It creates bad precedence for others to follow.

No other way, bro. Must be based on the Perlembagaan, the highest set of laws in the country, and all other laws that emanate from it.

Salam young man,

I think you are right about the unnecessary apology by Idris, my father a 70year old ex- civil servant very staunch UMNO is very displeased with it. His first reaction was who the hell this guy Idris making an apology on behalf of the Gomen, he got authority?

About the porn video, it sells bro, damage has been done and Anwar and PAS are counting their damaged Islamic credentials. People will soon get round to the Alkitab issue after the Sarawak Elections, mark my word.

Wass.
