The Curse of Osama strikes US forces in Afghanistan, time for Uncle Sam to say adieu

Osama Bin Laden's Curse?

US Helicopter Shot Down in Afghanistan, 38 Dead

AP Reports 22 SEALs from Bin Laden Raid Team Among Slain

AP sources: Crash kills members of SEAL Team 6

This is indeed a great tragedy for the US led forces in Afghanistan in the almost a decade long war against the Talibans. At least 20 SEAL Special Forces were killed together with 7 Afghan Soldiers and the crew of the Chinook Helicopter which were purportedly shot down by anti aircraft rocket fire.

If the Talibans now have anti aircraft rockets and the expertise to use them, then, the Afghan war led by the US is set to enter a more dangerous stage.

Helicopters are the main battle transport for the US led western forces in Afganistan, surface to air missiles if utilised effectively by the Talibans will severely restrict the movement of air transport not to mentions lives lost if the rockets strike its intended target.

This was the news on 28 July 2011 when it was reported that the Taliban tried unsuccessfully to shoot down a C-130 Hercules using heat seeking anti air craft missile, read here

Sadly for the US Soldiers, on 6 August 2011, the Talibans were successful.

Afghanistan is a nation which has never been really conquered, the great British Empire never did, the mighty modern Russian Army were thrown out unceremoniously and now perhaps it will be the turn of the US led forces to cut their losses and leave Afghanistan for good.
